A Week in The Life at Hubspoke Media

A Week In The Life At Hubspoke Media by Sophie Hassack - Work Experience Student

Hubspoke Media is a small group of talented designers that have kindly invited me into their workspace on my work experience placement. I was warmly welcomed and introduced to the large range of partners they work with and media they work on that then lead to me practicing my skills with the team. Hubspoke has a varied amount of skill, partnering with companies from various places geographically and in general ranging from DJ hiring companies to IT consultancy companies showing the diversity of Hubspoke.

Day to day life is on the relaxed side because everything is well organised. Planning is a largely factored in for Hubspoke Media as all their partners social media platforms and content are carefully controlled and scheduled to be uploaded. The team talk things through, communication is key here, looking at issues and working on them within group meetings gathering everyone’s opinions so that decisions are balanced and equal. This has made it even more enjoyable to stay here as everything is up to date and well looked after, including equipment and facilities. Again, communication is solid and key with Hubspoke and their clients, going above and beyond to satisfy and help them. Looking out for people is important to this company which is clear through all their work and services. The everyday work environment is full of laughs and joking mixed with hard work and seriousness when needed. The group is filled with lovely people making work fun, enjoyable and positive. But Hubspoke doesn’t just keep their positive energy within their small circle, the team is close with a lot of their partners through all the hard work they do for them as the client is always first in mind with Hubspoke. With all the enjoyment and fun in the workplace I was impressed to see the amount of hard work they put into everything they do. Its impressive and inspiring to see such a small sized group closely  work together maintain their connections and uphold all the work they do for clients and businesses.

Hubspoke is based in Darlington right next to the train station. Travelling to the office everyday was simple and straightforward. The facilities that Hubspoke has to offer are incredible with a large main office filled with high-tech equipment and positive attitudes, alongside the brilliant podcast studio. The podcast studio is beautifully designed and cared for by the staff which is visible through their attitudes and love for the studio. The studio is soundproofed and decked out in impressive state of the art cameras and mics. It was clear to me that the team really cares for their clients and it’s in their best interests to help boost and support people’s podcasts. Not only are Hubspoke’s individual facilities amazing but also the building Hubspoke Media is based in, Business Central, is phenomenal. The building is clean and has been a lovely place to work in. The building also has a large conference room great for meetings with clients.  As Hubspoke is in this building it also gives them various connections with the other businesses based in the building which they further pass onto clients if need be. The altogether feel of the building is modern, immaculate and peaceful filled with positive, friendly people.

Hubspoke’s access to these ranging tools and facilities has given me the chance to really get stuck in with what I’m working on and work to my full potential using their tools. The online tools are up to date with a professional feel which are much better then tools I have used at other places. The physical equipment is ranging and high-quality including microphones, cameras, go pros, editing equipment and drones that feature in Hubspoke’s TV advertising work, independent videography and photography and drone work. This equipment is also cared for and looked after extremely well, this is clear throughout Hubspoke’s facilities and storage of their equipment. The work I have done here at Hubspoke has given me some seriously string work for my own educational journey being able to work at my full potential via Hubspoke’s incredible tools.

Throughout the week I have worked on my skills through the various tasks given via Hubspoke. I first worked on some social media posts for one of Hubspokes clients focusing on my graphic design skills which are scheduled to be featured on their social media page, then working on some social media content for Hubspoke. Leading into other skills I then tried filming and editing videos with Hubspokes amazing equipment and tools. Shadowing the talented girls Alina and Jess was also interesting as they guided me through their work processes and how to work the new tools I have been introduced to here. Also, being able to shadow Alina in the podcast studio was an amazing experience that taught me a lot about the behind the scenes of videography. I was able to control the cameras whilst Alina focused on the sound quality although the process didn’t end in the podcast studio. I got to watch and study how Alina edits her footage and being able to see how hard she works was very inspiring. The enthusiasm throughout Hubspoke was enjoyable and refreshing to be around seeing people really caring and loving what they’re working on.

The team in general was lovely to work with but Adam, Hubspoke Media’s director, was keen to introduce young people to the world of graphic design and digital marking etc and it was clear that he especially loves what he does. To find such a good quality organisation who put everything into their work in the Northeast area was a rare find as there aren’t many creative group organisations, and none as inviting as Hubspoke. It has been lovely to see first-hand what the world of digital marketing and creative work in general is like and what it has to offer as it isn’t majorly talked about within schools. Writing from an educational view point I have learnt a lot from Hubspoke Media varying from what equipment is most effective and reliable to the enjoyment of being a part of a small friendly work force. It’s nice to see a serious creative company and see how well its growing. Hubspoke has been lovely to work with for a week and I have learnt a lot from my week alongside them.
