I am a student at Haughton Academy. For my work experience placement, my careers advisor secured a placement at Hubspoke Media, which aligned with my interests in photography and online design.
At Hubspoke Media, I completed many tasks, including photographing a candle business (Mee & Bee) and a dog treats and dog toys business (Bark n Bite) for Darlington Workspace. I have also conducted media work for Hubspoke Media, including using Canva to create social media posts, writing a blog about the new desktop features on TikTok, and auditing development websites for errors. I conducted content research on Hubspoke Media and developed content ideas for the business. These ideas could then be used to create social media posts and TikToks. Using Canva, I made YouTube thumbnails for the wireless pro mic, the Zoom H5 studio and the Boya BY-Bm6060 condenser microphone. These thumbnail drafts were used to promote the YouTube unboxing videos, which I helped record in the studio with Adam Walker. I also made a list of 10 things to get a photographer for Christmas, which would then be used in a blog, teaching me the basics of what a blog needs to sound like. I enjoyed recording a podcast for Our Darling Town, switching cameras using the ATEM mini and editing the footage in Da Vinci Resolve. All of these experiences helped me understand what the photography /media industry is like today.
The highlights of my time at Hubspoke have been the opportunity to learn to use Canva and WordPress. Another consideration is the ability to photograph businesses. Editing was also new, as the unfamiliar software was used. Another was the help I received from both Adams and Alina, including the latest skills they taught me and what to expect if I choose a job in the photography market or the growing media market. The amount of freedom you can have in media, there aren’t many instructions to follow, keep the work to the standard, and that’s just about it. I also learnt more about the equipment used in photography and the industry’s offerings to customers and workers.
