Adobe always hits the mark with its software updates. Some people would say the cost of a licence is too high for what it can achieve; however, it is undeniable that Adobe is leading the way in creativity across its many apps. One of those apps is video editing software Premiere Pro. It’s changed a lot since it was first released over 20 years ago, but today we are diving into the latest updates and tools it offers its users.
Media Intelligence Upgrades

Finding the perfect shot has never been easier with this latest upgrade. This upgrade to Premiere Pro’s AI-powered media intelligence leverages language-based imagery and spoken words or content to quickly find related shots. It can search for embedded metadata such as shoot date, location or even camera type, too – meaning no more frustrated scrolling when working on your project!
To search for media, click the magnifying glass icon in the top-right corner of the window. A search field will appear where you can find the clip you want. It’s best to use multi-word searches and describe the clips as if you’re telling them to someone who has never seen them before. Your search will return results for Visuals, Metadata, and Text simultaneously; however, you can use the advanced filtering options to search for one type at a time.
New Frame.io panel
“Easily manage and import media, share sequences for review – and get the feedback you need, right where you need it.”
Adobe have upgraded the Frame.io panel to make it more streamlined for teams and individuals. Frame.io allows teams to collaborate on projects and get feedback built in. Your team, through Creative Cloud, can access and organise your media files, add collaborators to projects, upload timelines and media for review, share projects in presentation mode and import comments and annotations directly into your timeline. Sounds like a dream, right? You can also clearly manage project versions so your team knows where you are with an edit. Frame.io is available for Premiere Pro and After Effects for Creative Cloud subscriptions.
AI Object Mask (Beta) and Redesigned shape masks (Beta)
Those who have worked on a wide range of projects will have encountered hours of painful rotoscoping. Painstakingly marking each point for a frame can be a daunting task – but Premiere Pro Beta has a solution for this! AI Object Mask is a new addition to the app’s beta version.
“Say hello to Object Mask and goodbye to hours of painful rotoscoping. Just hover over your subject, click, and watch as AI accurately masks and tracks it.”
This is still in testing, but we are super excited to see how accurate this new AI masking solution is for users. AI object selection is a thing in Photoshop and works well for us, but we want to see how it fares with a “moving target”. Another addition to the masking workflow is a redesigned shape mask. Here is how Adobe have described it:

Premiere on iPhone
For years, app developers have been trying to put the power of video editing software into people’s hands through their smartphones. Now that dream is a reality with Premiere on iPhone. The app has all your favourite features from the desktop app, including 4K HDR editing, AI image creation, and seamless video editing. We are going to have a play with the app soon (keep an eye on our YouTube channel!), but we are convinced that it will be much easier to finesse a video in our hands than on a PC designed for editing.
TikTok and CapCut already have mobile video editing perfected, while Instagram Edit brings new features and quality-of-life optimisations that can’t really be improved on. The thing that Premiere on iPhone does that these other apps don’t is the ability to migrate your project to a desktop. You can start your project on mobile by uploading videos, arranging the order of the clips, and adding sound, then open the project on desktop to work on effects, captions, or even take it into After Effects!
Other updates

- Adobe Stock panel is now integrated into Premiere Pro.
- You can send a video from Adobe Firefly straight to Premiere Pro
- Unlock over 90 all-new cinematic effects, transitions and animations from Film Impact.
